Inside the Modern Man Cave

Modern man caves are more sophisticated than the man caves of yesterday. Consider these four points when designing a sanctuary for the man of the house.

A space with a purpose – Plan the space around the interests and hobbies of the primary person using it. Any room from the garage to basement to outdoor patio can be transformed into a man cave with the proper design and furnishings. Don’t be afraid to get creative.

Style and comfort – Man caves are no longer a storage unit for the broken furniture from your college dorm. Unify the space around a color pallet, style or theme for an inviting atmosphere. If the space is going to be used for entertaining, invest in plenty of comfortable seating.

Outfit with tech – Smart technology is becoming more popular in these spaces, so you can easily automate your lights, air flow and sound system. Don’t forget details such as streaming services or cable packages that you’ll need to host all of the big games. A refrigerator and microwave also help avoid the need to continually run to the main kitchen for refreshments.

Inviting for everyone – They’re still referred to as “man caves,” but posting a “no girls allowed” sign on the door is definitely faux pas. A modern man cave commonly doubles as a quiet retreat to relax solo, as well as a gathering spot for a group of friends.
